Pour un nouveau Mémorial du 19 août 42
Comme chaque année, les élus de Dieppe Ensemble ont participé aux manifestations commémorant le débarquement du 19 août 1942. Cette date est gravée dans la mémoire collective des dieppois.
Nous devons toujours nous souvenir que ces centaines de jeunes soldats, pour beaucoup canadiens, sont venus mourir dans un pays qu’ils ne connaissaient pas, pour la liberté d’hommes et de femmes qu’ils ne connaissaient pas. Ils sont morts pour notre liberté.
Ce 19 août, le représentant de l’ambassadeur du Canada comparait très justement, dans son allocution, l’engagement de ces jeunes canadiens de 1942 à celui des canadiens engagés aujourd’hui en Afghanistan, pour lutter contre la barbarie des Talibans. Nous l’approuvons totalement. L’hommage à ceux qui sont morts hier pour la liberté va de paire avec l’exigence de soutien à ceux qui combattent aujourd’hui pour cette même liberté.
L’année prochaine, Dieppe commémorera le 70ème anniversaire du débarquement du 19 août 1942. Nous souhaitons qu’à cette occasion, notre ville et tous ses habitants puissent rendre un très grand hommage aux derniers vétérans vivants.
Dieppe Ensemble propose qu’à cette occasion, la ville de Dieppe engage le projet de création d’un nouveau Mémorial du 19 août 1942 qui permette aux associations de poursuivre le formidable travail engagé depuis quelques années dans le Mémorial provisoire du Petit Théâtre.
